How to Create Own Custom Menu in Windows 8
Windows 8 Tips |
If there is one thing that gets complaints about Windows 8, the Start menu is missing. A variety of programs are available to restore the Start menu in one form or the other (see this tip for two of them, which are free), but you can also create your own. So if you miss the way things used to be, here's a way to create a replacement for the old menu. It's not exactly the same thing, but I think you will find it very useful and a great time saver.
The new menu is actually going to be a folder on your desktop so before you create the folder.
Go to your desktop and right click on an empty spot.
In the context menu, choose "New".
Select "Folder".
Assign a name to the "Start Menu" folder or whatever you want.
Next to create shortcuts for the things you want to include in the new Start menu. You can play a surprisingly large fraction of the contents of XP/Vista/7 Start Menu in this way.
Open the empty folder you created and right-click inside it.
In the context menu that opens, select "New-Link."In the box under "Enter the path of the item", enter the path to the desired connection. Paths to some useful shortcuts are shown in the following table. Note that all paths are one line. Due to the limitations of the page table shows some paths and wrapped on two lines.Click on "Next".Enter a name for the connection.Click "Finish".Repeat the process for each link that you want to include. Sharing is sexy
