Protect XP Guest Account with Password
After request of many blog readers, I would point out that you can set a password for the guest account, just by doing this. This method is a little easier "because it does not have to mess with CMD.exe.
1. Make sure to be logged on as administrator.
2. Go to Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management.
3. Select the "Users" folder in "Local Users and Groups."
4. Right click on the "Guest" account and click on "Set Password". When a window appears warning of the possible consequences, click "Proceed". It will give you a dialog box that lets you set a new password.
I have always considered security a priority and given the ease of doing this I recommend that everyone sets a Guest account password. Even if the Guest account is disabled by default, why not do it by the simple touch of security?
Local Users and Groups is not available in Windows XP Home. One way to set a password for the guest account in Home and Pro: Click Start - Run - type: cmd - in the command window, type: net user guest * - press Enter - you will be asked for password. Sharing is sexy
