Unlock PDF

Do you have a bunch of PDF files on your computer that are protected by a long and complex password. You know the password, but it still feels awkward and tedious to enter it every time you have to open a PDF file.

Is there a tool available that can remove the password protection of PDF files? Someone asked me this question on Twitter the other day and the answer is obviously yes.

Remove the password from a PDF file

There is a free Windows utility called BeCyPDFMetaEdit that can help remove passwords from PDF files *, but without making any other changes to the document. (Not sure why the developers chose such a complicated name of this useful utility).

This is what you do:

1. Run the program will ask for the location of the PDF file.

2. Before you select and open the PDF file, change the mode to "Complete Rewrite."

3. Click the Security tab and set the "security system" to "No encryption". Click on the Save button and the PDF will not need a password to open.
